BACKGROUND TO THE CONTEST
Let’s face it. Most of our household cleaning or personal care tasks today require us to use both hands to get the job done. When we clean the house, we’ve got a spray bottle in one hand and a wipe in the other. When we’re in the shower, we need two hands to apply shampoo. And just think about trying to clean up a soiled diaper with one hand! Wouldn’t it be great to allow for more multitasking by freeing up one of those hands? So here’s the challenge:
THE CHALLENGE #1
Your challenge: Create a working prototype or concept drawing that shows how a standard cleaning or personal care task that typically requires two hands can be done with only one hand. Consider the following types of tasks: bathing, oral care, skin care, baby care, cleaning the bathroom, cleaning the kitchen, dusting, mopping/vacuuming. Please provide:
1. A photo or video of your working prototype
2. A sketch of your concept drawing
3. The reason you chose to turn your particular task into a one-hand-only task (ie., what’s the need behind your prototype?).
THE CHALLENGE #2
Develop a method of applying a liquid to larger wall or ceiling surfaces that ensures the liquid applied will not become aerosolized or drip once applied. Preference for non-powered solutions, but willing to consider powered solutions as well. Low cost solutions are preferable. Solutions can be reusable or one time use sold as the primary unit on shelf with the liquid on board. Preference for smaller solutions that could fit on a retail shelf in grocery or mass merchants.
REQUIREMENTS
Please include:
1. A photo or video of your working prototype
2. A sketch of your concept drawing
3. The reason you chose to turn your particular task into a one-hand-only task (ie., what’s the need behind your prototype?).
WINNING CRITERIA
The most innovative and realistic concepts and prototypes that show how to turn household cleaning tasks that typically require two hands into cleaning tasks that can be done with only one hand will be rewarded (see our judging criteria in the FAQs).
