Great posting, Maura! One way to help eliminate this confusion is to look for the Natural Products Association seal on your natural products. The NPA seal guarantees through an independent third party that the product is made from at least 95% natural ingredients (not including any water in the product) and does not contain even trace amounts of potentially harmful chemicals like phthalates, dioxins, etc. More information on the NPA can be found at www.thenaturalseal.org.
By the way, a number of leading natural product lines carry the NPA seal - Burt's Bees, Green Works, Aubrey Organics, and JR Watkins for example - with more companies getting their products certified each day. So one additional question to ask is "How can we take advantage of existing green certification programs to help eliminate consumer confusion?"
Nothing forthcoming on the Neutra Air website...what is the active currently?
Most hand sanitizers are "only" at 99.99% as well, so this actually seems a rather high level of kill given other products out there. Is there anyone successfully marketing/gaining share with a 5-log or higher kill? Once you get to 99.99%, are the extra 9's worth it or even consumer meaningful?
I do. But to give you an idea of what you're up against, I cook for my dogs on a regular basis and actually supplement that diet with dog food, rather than the other way around. Is it worth it? My Akita lived a lively, active 14 years and 6 months- 40% longer than the average average life span for her breed! Could a company provide quality and freshness to supplant my cooking fresh? Probalby not. But they might be able to deliver a food that would be an acceptable complement.
