    Title of Your Idea:
    Kingsford Briquette Scoop
    What's Your Idea?:

Having taken briquettes out of the bag last night for a barbeque, I presented myself to my guests looking like a chimney sweep.  This situation gave me the following idea for a scoop that would make it easier to get  briquettes out of the bag and not leave users blackened from fingernails to elbows.

A plastic lined, bowl shaped center in a barbeque mitt with a cupped plastic scoop on the end of the mitt would allow users to put their hand into the mitt and scoop out the required number of briquettes in two or three passes.  The briquettes would go into the bowl shaped center of the mitt and could be placed into the barbeque, even if the existing coals were already hot.

Thank you for sharing an awesome idea!  By the way, just love your drawing.  It clearly demonstrates your idea.  My question for you is could plastic material sustain the heat?  Most hot handle mittens are made out of cloth/cotton canvas.  Saw on the net that there is a flexible, heat resistant silicone material.  Maybe heat resistant silicon would fit your design better.  My second question is what purpose does bowl shaped plastic liner serve?  If the scoop is extended to the palm area, then scoop can grab more than 2-3 briquettes.  What do you think?  Thank you for your feedback!

We like your idea so much that we marked it as our favorite of the week (see the front page at www.cloroxconnects.com under my favorite ideas this week and to see it highlighted).

I'm thinking of this glove more as a "get-your-charcoal-out-of-the-bag" kind of affair.  The mitt itself would need to be at least 15" long to avoid getting soot from the bag all over the user's arm.  The hard end would allow the user to dig into the briquettes and let them fall into the cupped, cut out center of the mitt.  This would give the user the ability to get more than a handful of briquettes at one time and place them into a cold grill.  Actually, the entire glove could be made from heat resistant silicone so the user could place additional briquettes onto hot coals, but this kind of mitt is very flexible and might not take well to a hard plastic end piece.

Your idea of extending the scoop into the palm area is a good one.  The scoop could end at the user's palm or be all one piece and end in a cupped bowl that was bigger than the user's palm (assuming, of course, that the user is not some guy with huge hands!).

I know you are on the right track. I should be galvanized steel for all weather use. It should keep your hands clean. My Drawing is VERY rough. The top part of the tong type scoop should be wider than it looks in my drawing. It could use a bit of brainstorming before it is correctly designed.
