Soon, the town of 297 residents had 81 households agree to forego the privilege of using the product. Some women, including Sue Dunagan, who would later participate in a 30-second commercial to publicize the event, were reluctant to swear off the bleach.

“I offered to trade them any other product from my house — coffee, tea — for $10,” said Sue.

After a month, the resounding response from all participants was that they had seen a difference in their laundry without the bleach.

Sue expressed, “With Clorox I have never had a problem. Without it there is a big problem.”
