My idea is to offer refill packs for the canisters of Clorox Disinfecting Wipes. Once a person buys a few canisters (Costco usually offers them in 3-packs), the need to replace the entire canister is wasteful. Instead, Clorox could offer rolls of the wipes inside thin, sealed plastic bags that could be opened and inserted into the older canisters.
It seems this would offer an environmentally friendly means to sell the product. Less plastic and paper would be used in packaging. Additionally, more refills could be packed in a given space than the whole canisters. A 6-pack refill could be offered for 1.5X-1.75X the cost of the current 3-pack canisters, and would take up about the same space - which would save money in both shipping/transportation charges, but also floor space at the retailer.

Thank you very much for suggesting such an environmentally friendly idea! I am thinking do Clorox disinfectant wipes have to be in a roll? If the refills are packed in a rectangular shape of sealed, plastic film bag, maybe it could save even more space. What do you think? I definitely agree with you that refill saves a lot of waste and economically it makes sense. Now we just have to get product development team to design a refill packaging that is environmentally friendly and fills up most number of wipes as possible.

Cathy,
The thinking behind the roll concept is that it would be similar in form to the existing canister dispensers. I'm sure Clorox product development considered different dispenser concepts and settled on the cylinder for a reason vs. tissue box style vs. magically appearing in your hand (which would be a really cool idea
). I do think a cylinder would be easiest to manufacture as you can make smaller individual rolls from a larger parent roll, so why not stick to that?
I doubt it would take much in terms of changes to the manufacturing process since in stead of shoving the roll into a hard plastic cylinder you just put the roll into a plastic sack and heat seal it shut. For overall refill design / packaging, I'm thinking what I see for the Brita cartridge refills. Just a roll inside a thin plastic bag that you can tear open with your hands. Put six into a small, recyclable cardboard box and viola, you have a product.

Ha ha... your manufacturing and engineering background really speaks up.
Now I am imagining the refills to be packed like a toilet tissue paper in a roll, but with plastic wrap to protect its moisture. Of course the roll fits current Clorox wipe's length. Thank you for your feedback!
