As our society uses social media more and more, how do companies track the "buzz" that they are getting? I thought this article gives an interesting perspective on how to approach this.

I think one of the main points in the need to be able to track Social Media performance is simply that as apps develop, users will be more able to bypass search engines altogether. Once that trend moves forward, SEM programs will become less effective and we will need to adapt. That adaptation is tracking performance and effectiveness on Social Media in order to optimize the user experience.
That's an interesting and forward-looking perspective, Francine. I believe apps will play a larger and larger role in the user experience of the internet in the future - so measuring and assigning significance to those instances will become more and more important for business. To date, I don't know of any firms capitilizing on that emerging market. Do you?
